Viscometer

Tool specifically developed to measure the viscosity of fluids.

In Ceramics, it is used for barbottine, engobes, smaltobbi, glaze and grit suspensions, etc.

The method is still used for newtonian fluids and water and in ideal conditions it can have an accuracy of about 0,1%.

There are several types of viscosimeters. The most common are:

FLOW CUPS

Cups equipped with a hole through which the liquid must flow. The cup usually consists of an empty cylinder with a built-in nozzle. The cups is made of anodized aluminum while the nozzles are made of stainless steel.

CAPILLARY VISCOMETER

It measures the time the sample takes to pass through the capillary that is marked by a predetermined length and diameter. The time is directly proportional to the viscosity value of the fluid. There are several types of capillary viscometers depending on the viscosity range expected from the sample under examination.

ROTATIONAL VISCOMETER

The most widely used in Ceramics. They consist of a rotating element immersed inside a fluid. When the rotating element is in motion, it exerts a torque of force: from the intensity of this torque, the viscosity of the fluid can be traced with precision.

Chemistry tailor-made

With a simple language that is accessible even to non-experts, the APP addresses issues related to chemistry applied to ceramic production.
