Particle size
Particle size is the property that identifies the particles that make up a sedimentary rock, soil or soil by size.
Glaze and grit suspensions may differ not only for their different amount of frits but also for the particle size of the particulate matter, also resulting from a different kidn of grinding process.
The inorganic elements of these two kind of suspension are similar (although in different proportions) but in general grit suspensions are marked by a solid particulate of greater dimensions that can improve both technical and aesthetic performance.
In addition, the smaller the particles, the greater will be their interaction surface. A smaller particle size, in fact, corresponds to a greater surface area and the higher the surface area the higher the probability of an interaction (attraction or repulsive) between particles.
The smaller size of glaze particles is functional to facilitate the sintering and vitrification process that takes place inside the kilns. The smaller the size of the particles, the greater will be its reactivity during the firing cycle.
