#20A ceramic production, chemicals & reduction of the environmental impact
The episode aims to refocus, from a special and provocative perspective, the role of chemicals used in ceramics.
The lens adopted here is that of environmental impact, with the goal of challenging the common prejudice often associated with the word “chemistry”—frequently perceived as synonymous with pollution, contamination, or harm.
While there is no intent to downplay or deny the irresponsible use that certain industries may make of hazardous technologies and substances, it is equally true that the term chemistry deserves to be reconsidered beyond the biases of chemophobia—an irrational belief that all chemicals are inherently harmful or dangerous.
At every stage of the production process, the intelligent use of additives can contribute—albeit in subtle and controlled ways—to measurable environmental improvements. These contributions should not be underestimated, let alone dismissed.
