The products in the OPTAPIX KG range are characterized by their degree of polymerization and the viscosity of their aqueous solutions. In addition to increasing abrasion resistance, these additives regulate the viscosity of glazes and engobes and are used as non-foaming binders.

Since CMC is a polyelectrolyte, the low viscosity of certain products in the range—derived from shorter chemical chains—provides, alongside the normal binding effect, a deflocculating property.
In general, a higher degree of polymerization improves binding properties and enhances the dehydration process—factors that directly contribute to longer drying times.
The product can be added during milling or incorporated in solution.
