CHEMISTRY PILLS

Stand-by fluid

Stand-by fluids are technical liquids used in digital ceramic printers during idle periods, whether short or extended. Their purpose is to protect internal components—especially the printheads—by preventing ink from drying out or leaving harmful residues.

Unlike cleaners (used for removal) or model fluids (used for testing), stand-by fluids are designed not to clean, but to preserve. They are introduced into the system when the printer is not in operation, keeping conditions stable and allowing for a smooth, safe restart without the need for extensive maintenance.

Their formulations are carefully developed to ensure chemical stability, ink compatibility, and controlled evaporation. A well-formulated stand-by fluid helps prevent nozzle clogging, extends the life of the print system, and reduces ink and solvent consumption when resuming activity.

Although often overlooked, these fluids play a key role in maintaining efficiency in digital printing workflows—especially in flexible production environments where pauses and frequent changes are common.

Stand-by fluids act as quiet safeguards: they do their job while the printer is at rest.
