Phosphonate
Phosphonates (or phosphonic acids) are a class of chemical compounds containing at least one phosphonic group, characterized by a direct bond between phosphorus and carbon.
Their chemical structure gives them excellent stability and resistance to reactions such as hydrolysis and oxidation, making them useful across a range of industrial and environmental applications.
One of their key properties is their strong ability to bind with metal ions, along with high water solubility—traits that make them particularly effective in harsh conditions, such as high temperatures or extreme pH levels.
In ceramics, phosphonates are among the most commonly used complexing agents. By neutralizing multivalent cations, they facilitate cation exchange, increasing the distance between particles and thereby reducing the system's viscosity.
