Surface protectants are formulated for use in the final stages of ceramic production, once the firing process is complete.
During polishing or lapping, a fine layer of material is inevitably removed, which exposes the underlying micro-porosities of the tile body. These pores, though invisible to the eye, can easily trap dirt and stains if left unsealed, ultimately diminishing both the appearance and long-term durability of the finished surface.

By sealing these micro-porosities – through rotary rollers, dripping systems, sponge applicators, or multi-head machines – protectants serve a dual purpose: they safeguard ceramic surfaces from deterioration while also enhancing their visual appeal. Certain formulations go even further, strengthening the material against mechanical stress and extending its performance over time.
