CHEMISTRY PILLS

Carving

Particular category of chemicals which is usually applied by means of digital printing machine.

They are able to produce on the tile's surface an incompatibility between ink and glaze, limiting the "repellency" phenomena in specific and previously defined areas of the surface.

The effect is usually required with some kinds of decoration such as wood or marble’s veins or with geometric designs. After the firing cycle, the application results is a lack of glaze that aesthetically creates a natural depth effect.

From a chemical point of view, these chemicals are specifically developed to be strongly non-polar (often much more than inks) and their application must be preceded by a careful study of the glaze and the leveling agent contained in the glaze.

This previuos check allows you to:

a) Promote a good and proper leveling and avoid a widespread repellency phenomenon thanks to the additive’s wetting action;

b) Keep the repellency phenomena exactly (and only) in the areas where the carving has been applied.
