The recent changes in tastes, together with the developments in increasingly sophisticated, high-performance technologies, have gradually led to the massive spread of ceramic surfaces able to reproduce the appearance of a wide range of natural materials.
While, on the one hand, the partial digitalisation of processes has made it possible to obtain surprising results in graphic terms, a number of post-firing finishing processes - such as polishing and lapping - are, on the other, helping to give ceramic surface those features able to offer the main qualities of the reference material: primarily marble, stone and onyx.
However, the mechanical action the material is subjected to at the polishing stage can often have side effects, which if not processed adequately, become evident after laying, with a negative impact on the well-known hallmark technical features of porcelain stoneware.
This process - although it abrades and removes a surface layer of just a few microns - inevitably brings to the surface the more or less spherical microporosities present in the glaze, which are vulnerable to dirt and chemicals.
The Z&S Ceramco Labs have developed a range of surface protectors that adhere mechanically to the surfaces treated, closing the porosities with a filling and sealing process.
POLISHILED products perform a cross-linking action within the open porosities, at the same time allowing for easy removal of surface excess using the brushing machines on the application line. The formula has been specifically studied to delay the process, so as to allow for adequate, gradual filling that does not alter the appearance of the ceramic material.
Used as it is or diluted with water, depending on the application system used, the product can be easily spread using a rotating roller, with dripping systems, with sponge applicators or using multi-head systems.
The range is complemented with a large series of pigmented colourants that dye the protector to match the shade of the surface to be treated, thus boosting product performance further.
The dosage always depends on the type of surface to be treated, the technology used and the specific production requirements, remaining faithful to a vision centred around a 360-degree service comprising the formulation of perfectly customised solutions always tailored to the customer.
