#09. Maintenance of the grinding chamber
The aim of this activity is to produce a suspension (adhesive or digital ink) suitable for processing by digital inkjet printing systems. The process is carried out using a NETZSCH grinding mill.
The equipment is charged with thousands of yttria-stabilized zirconia microspheres which, due to their high density, generate highly efficient impacts. From a grinding perspective, this allows particle sizes below 1 micron to be achieved, starting from initial particle sizes typically around 20 microns.
Such a fine particle size is essential to ensure proper suspension of the solid phase and reliable application through the nozzles of a digital inkjet printer.
The overall process requires several hours of grinding, with the duration depending on the amount of material processed, the initial particle size distribution, and the hardness of the material.
Throughout the grinding process, periodic checks are carried out using laser particle size analyzers until the desired result is achieved.
